About Megan & Journey of the Yogini
Questions, comments, feedback...
My journey on the path of Yoga started awhile back when my mother, who had already been doing Yoga for a few years, convinced me to try a class. I did and that was the beginning of my journey, and Journey of the Yogini.
After my class ended I felt alive again. I could breathe, and more importantly I realized how long I had neglected my own needs and wants, and that it was time to reclaim them. After a few classes I decided that teaching was what my heart wanted. So I listened. Once I taught my first Sun Salutations in my first 200hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in 2006, I knew that this was my path- sharing and teaching Yoga.
Throughout my twenties I have traveled all over the world, and in 2008 I combined my passion for travel with my passion for Yoga and travelled to India for a second 200 hour Yoga Teacher training program with Yogi, a prominent teacher with a Ph.D in Yoga. In was the most incredible experience of my life. While there I met women who inspired me and truely taught me what it was to be a women. After returning from India I made it my mission to share the inspiration and teachings with other women.
I have been teaching at studio's around the Ottawa area, as well as corporate classes at businesses such as Mitel and Alcatel, and also served as a Lululemon Ambassador for Westboro in 2008. Since 2006, I have also completed an 800hr. Yoga Philosophy course by correspondence with Georg Feuerstine, studied extensively with Seane Corn, and am beginning the process of obtaining my 500hr. certification with Shiva Rea learning her beautiful, energetic style, PranaFlow. I also recently became an Ambassador for Lululemon Rideau Center this year, as well as for the I AM idea.
I love to teach and share the teachings as much as I can with others, especially those who wish to deepen their understanding of the amazing path of Yoga. I am honored to be a lead teacher in The Athletic Club's teacher training program in Ottawa and London, Ont. with Todd Lavictoire and Jenn Stowe. Together we developed the program, and with over 4000hrs. of training combined, I truely think it is one of the best programs in the city.
In March, 2011, I attended my first Off the Mat, Into the World training with Seane Corn, in Washington, with the intention of learning how to ignite social activism in Ottawa to help support national/international womens campigns.
I have the priviledge to do what I love everyday, but these workshops, retreats, and events are my passion. Bridging Yoga, community, and conscious action is definetly my Dharma. It brings purpose and joy to my life daily.
JOY began as popular women only Yoga workshops, where part of the proceeds were donated to local women's shelters or organizations that helped women and girls. Throughout the years the community began to grow, workshops were selling out, and I felt like we were ready to expand the vision and help more people. And so became Journey of the Yogini, offering not only workshops, but sold out retreats and events now too.
The JOY motto:
To understand the world, first understand yourself. To heal the world, start by working to heal yourself. Work from the inside out.
